Earl A. Talbot, Retired Partner

A co-founding partner of Hoogendoorn & Talbot, Earl A. Talbot celebrated 50 years as a licensed practitioner in 2014. His expertise in real estate spans the areas of commercial leasing and development, litigation, purchases, sales, land titles, and taxation.

Representing buyers, sellers, landlords, tenants, and lenders, Earl engages in a full range of real estate transaction services in matters involving new construction, purchases, financing, and refinancing. He also handles issues related to the development of many types of property, including single-family and multi-family residential, retail, industrial, agricultural, and office and other commercial buildings.

Earl regularly collaborates with the firm’s estate and tax planning group to help clients structure and implement the real estate aspects of their trust and estate plans to minimize taxes in order to implement generation-skipping strategies, protect assets, and make charitable gifts. In addition, Earl is experienced in handling condominium and co-op conversions and state and local taxation concerns.

Seeking to develop creative, problem-solving transaction structures, Earl is known for bringing an element of humor to his practice to put clients at ease while striving to achieve their goals. In his work on behalf of churches and other not-for-profit organizations, Earl frequently handles title transfers and tax-exempt status obtainment to realize a more cost-effective operating environment for these clients. He also facilitates transactions between landlords and altruistic organizations to achieve the best results to sustain their missions. A big believer in “giving back,” Earl supports many charitable and community groups.

Earl practiced real estate law at Kirkland & Ellis from 1967 to 1985, prior to co-founding Hoogendoorn & Talbot. Earlier in his career, he started as an attorney at Chicago Title and Trust Company as a title examiner and then a trust officer.
