Early in his career, Rick Boonstra drafted a successful writ of habeas corpus and assisted in persuading a federal judge to order the INS to turn the plane around that was deporting a Liberian national seeking political asylum. The Liberian is now a United States citizen. This was one example, among many, of asserting people’s rights in the context of litigation. Although Rick no longer does immigration work, he honed his litigation skills in representing clients and extended families in deportation and asylum trials involving multiple countries throughout the World.
